Twenty Days in Asia

It is beyond an understatement to say that I was excited to be traveling to Asia. In truth, I researched and researched for weeks, if not months! What countries to visit? What cities to spend time exploring? I ultimately decided on a whirlwind twenty day adventure visiting Japan, Vietnam, and Burma (Myanmar).

Let me start by saying that twenty days is a long time to be away. Somewhere near day ten you forget about your comfy bed and clean clothes back home and just embrace whatever wild adventure the day throws your way. It is rare that life affords us the opportunity to take so much time away and I am grateful that I was able to experience so many countries and cultures during one trip.

I spent the majority of my time in Burma. The country’s unique and tumultuous history, as well as the fact that much of the country had not yet been exposed to mass tourism was a huge draw. In truth, there were times Burma felt very isolated, but the people were incredible, and each region had a very unique vibe. In the end, I was so glad I chose to spend the majority of my trip exploring five unique cities in Burma.

The trip as a whole was life changing and it is impossible to pick just one favorite day, city, or country. However, these are a few of the highlights:

An evening trek through Fushimi Shrine in Kyoto.

Kayaking Ha Long Bay, Vietnam as the sun set behind the limestone formations.

Staying two nights at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, and wasting the night away into the wee hours at New York Bar, feeling as if I was transported onto the set of Lost in Translation (my favorite movie of all time!)

I could go on for days and days about how amazing my experience was in Asia, but I’ll just let you see if for yourself.
